Open and control the notch from the keyboard, use it with VoiceOver, and see how it follows Increase Contrast and Reduce Motion.
You can use Warble with the keyboard alone or with VoiceOver. It also follows the display settings in System Settings › Accessibility.
Open the notch from the keyboard
- Open Settings… from the menu bar icon or the notch menu, and choose Shortcuts.
- Click Record Shortcut beside Open the notch, then press the keys you want, such as ⌃⌥N.
- Press your shortcut in any app. The notch on the display with the pointer opens, ready for the keys below.
When nothing is playing, the shortcut opens the last song played, and Space plays it again.
Keys in the open notch
| Key | What it does |
|---|---|
| Space | Play or pause |
| ← or → | Go back or forward 10 seconds |
| ⇧← or ⇧→ | Previous or next song |
| ↑ or ↓ | Louder or quieter |
| Esc | Close the notch |
The notch stays open wherever the pointer goes, until you press Esc or your shortcut again, or click somewhere else. Then the app you were in has the keyboard back.
Use VoiceOver
- The closed notch reads “Now playing”, then the song and the artist, and whether it’s playing or paused.
- Open the notch with your shortcut, and VoiceOver starts on the song. Every button has a name. The position and the volume work like any other slider.
- If Warble can’t see what’s playing, the ”!” reads “Show what’s wrong”. Each check in the list says whether it’s OK or needs fixing.
Increase Contrast and Reduce Motion
- With Increase contrast on, grey text gets lighter, and the open notch has a solid border in the album’s colour instead of a glow.
- With Reduce motion on, the notch changes shape at once and only its contents fade. The bars stand still.
Increase contrast is in System Settings › Accessibility › Display, and Reduce motion is in Accessibility › Motion. Warble never uses colour alone to show something: shuffle and repeat show a dot under them when they’re on.
